Nasa Photoshop Images

Ever wonder how NASA creates those stunning, brilliantly colored images from space? Wonder no more! The agency has created a time-lapse video demonstrating the effort behind imaging the cosmos.
The video (below) shows how Photoshop is used to reconstruct a Hubble panorama of spiral galaxy NGC 3982. Data from seven greyscale image of the galaxy are scaled, rotated, and combined into one image that undergoes color retouching and further editing before it is is ready for release. The whole process takes 10 hours.
Gizmodo explains why NASA chooses to Photoshop its images:
Scientists have to choose how to represent this information in a way that we can observe directly. Sometimes they will use a natural representation, which is very close to what we would see if we zoomed there inside the Enterprise. Other times they will choose representative color, which helps them see invisible features of the object—like those that can only be captured in infrared or ultraviolet light. And sometimes they show the image in enhanced color, a hyperrealist mode that brings a lot of hidden, subtle details.
Watch the video to see the process unfold, then explore NASA's HubbleSite to learn more about the story behind these epic pictures. For more incredible images, click on over to our slideshow of10 amazing Hubble images.

Russia’s head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, has appealed to the Nobel Prize Committee to revoke U.S. President Barack Obama’s Nobel Prize, the party’s press service said in a statement on Monday.
Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for his commitment to non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
“The situation in Libya is yet another shocking act of aggression by NATO forces and in particular by the United States. This is a clear reflection of colonial policy. This is another crude invasion into the domestic affairs of an independent state. There is only one goal: to take control of Libyan oil and the Libyan regime and not saving the Libyan people,” the press service quoted Zhirinovsky as saying.
The colorful and flamboyant leader of Russia’s LDPR party plans to meet with Libyan Ambassador to Russia Amir al-Arabi on Wednesday to discuss the latest events in the North African country.
Earlier Zhirinovsky called on the Muslim world to support Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and sent an official letter to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen demanding the immediate stop to the military operation in Libya.
A military operation against Libya’s strongman Gaddafi, who has ruled the country with an iron fist for more than 40 years, began on Saturday. On Monday, Western forces launched a second wave of air strikes on Gaddafi’s positions under a UN resolution authorizing military action to protect Libyan civilians.
NATO has so far not indicated if it will participate in the operation.
Libyan television has reported that at least 50 civilians have been killed and over 150 wounded in the UN strikes and that many health and education facilities have been destroyed.

Radiation levels highest since crisis began in Fukushima Japan

http://chaoticfate.blogspot.com

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/27/japan-idUSL3E7ER06020110327

* Battle to control Fukushima plant seen far from over
* Japan crisis helps tip Germany poll against Merkel
* More than 27,000 dead or missing from quake and tsunami (Adds Kyodo on PM, expert)
TOKYO, March 28 (Reuters) - Japan appeared resigned on Monday to a long fight to contain the world's most dangerous atomic crisis in 25 years after high radiation levels complicated work at its crippled nuclear plant.
Engineers have been battling to control the six-reactor Fukushima complex since it was damaged by a March 11 earthquake and tsunami that also left more than 27,000 people dead or missing across Japan's devastated north east.
Radiation at the plant has soared in recent days. Latest readings at the weekend showed contamination 100,000 times normal in water at reactor No. 2 and 1,850 times normal in the nearby sea.
Those were the most alarming levels since the crisis began.
"I think maybe the situation is much more serious than we were led to believe," said one expert, Najmedin Meshkati, of the University of Southern California, adding it may take weeks to stabilise the situation and the United Nations should step in.
"This is far beyond what one nation can handle - it needs to be bumped up to the U.N. Security Council. In my humble opinion, this is more important than the Libya no fly zone."
Under-pressure plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501.T) has conceded it faces a protracted and uncertain operation to contain overheating fuel rods and avert a meltdown.
"Regrettably, we don't have a concrete schedule at the moment to enable us to say in how many months or years (the crisis will be over)," TEPCO vice-president Sakae Muto said in the latest of round-the-clock briefings the company holds.

Though experts said radiation in the Pacific waters will quickly dissipate, the levels at the site are clearly dangerous, and the 450 or so engineers there have won admiration and sympathy around the world for their bravery and sense of duty.
The nuclear crisis is an especially sensitive subject for Japanese given they are the only nation to have been hit by atomic bombs, at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
Last week, two workers at Fukushima were hurt with radiation to their legs after water seeped over their shoes, and on Sunday engineers had to abandon reactor No. 2 after the new reading.
Further afield, beyond the evacuation zone around Fukushima, there has been plenty of evidence of radiation -- from tap water in Tokyo 240 km (150 miles) south of the nuclear facility to particles found as far away as Iceland.
Japanese officials and international nuclear experts have generally said the levels away from the plant are not dangerous for humans, who anyway face comparable radiation doses on a daily basis from natural substances, X-rays or plane flights.
"NOT OVER"
Two of the plant's six reactors are now seen as safe but the other four are volatile, occasionally emitting steam and smoke.
TEPCO officials indicated the highly contaminated water is probably coming from inside the reactors rather than from pools of spent fuel rods outside.
Experts are anxious to find out whether the reactor cores are broken and leaking, as that could lead to a meltdown.
One long-term solution may be to entomb the Fukushima reactors in sand and concrete as happened at Chernobyl, Ukraine, after the 1986 disaster that was the world's worst.
Yukiya Amano, head of U.N. nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency, said the crisis may drag for weeks or months. "This is a very serious accident by all standards," he told the New York Times. "It is not yet over."
The Japan crisis has prompted a reassessment of nuclear power across the world. It had its most direct political impact yet in foreign politics in Germany at the weekend.
Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats lost control of Germany's most prosperous state, Baden-Wuerttemberg, as anti-nuclear sentiment benefited her opponents in a regional vote.
Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has kept a low profile during the crisis, but may face awkward questions after Kyodo news agency said his visit to the region the day after the disaster delayed TEPCO'S response to the unfolding situation.
"The process to release the steam was delayed due to the premier's visit," it quoted an unnamed government source as saying, adding there were fears Kan may be exposed to radiation.
NATIONAL AGONY
Away from the plant, radioactivity in Japan's air remained in normal ranges.
In downtown Tokyo, a Reuters reading on Sunday afternoon showed ambient radiation of 0.16 microsieverts per hour, below the global average of naturally occurring background radiation of 0.17-0.39 microsieverts per hour.
The nuclear crisis has compounded Japan's agony after the magnitude 9.0 quake and massive tsunami devastated its north east coast, turning whole towns into apocalyptic-looking landscapes of mud and debris.
The latest death toll was 10,804 people, with 16,244 still missing 17 days after the disaster. About a quarter of a million people are living in shelters.
Damage could top $300 billion, making it the world's costliest natural disaster. 4.4 Earthquake off Oregon Coast, Foreshock?

http://chaoticfate.blogspot.com

magnitude-4.4-earthquake-25-march-2011

I found this latest earthquake to be interesting, 100 miles off the coast of California / Oregon, a magnitude 4.4.
The magnitude is of no particular interest, however it’s location is, at least to me… Given the recent very large earthquakes that have been shaking at the Pacific tectonic plate boundaries during the past year or so, the remaining ‘untouched’ region so far has been the west coast U.S (untouched – meaning a large earthquake).
While looking at the location of the past 5,000 earthquakes in the region shown in the map above, it is interesting that the recent magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred in an area by itself, with no other apparent history of quakes there. In itself this is not alarming, but given the specific region with it’s very high concentration of historical earthquakes pulling and tugging at the Pacific plate boundary, the specific location of yesterday’s quake is exactly between two very active zones.
Could it be a precursor or fore-shock of the next big Pacific plate earthquake? Or is it just another anomaly. No one knows of course, but it did peak my curiosity.
The region is complicated in that on the left there is the Pacific plate, which is actually pulling away from the coast there. Towards the right, just off the coast of Oregon and northern California lies the Cascadia Subduction Zone, where the piece in-between itself and the Pacific plate (the Juan de Fuca plate) is actually diving down underneath the North American plate to the right.
This subduction zone is capable of producing magnitude 9+ earthquakes, and it’s historical timetable is due for another one.
Got your earthquake kit ready?

401 - Climate Religion - Agenda 21

http://chaoticfate.blogspot.com

Climate Religion – In The Begining There Was Agenda 21 - Follow the Money

We should consider new taxes, user chargers, emission permits, citizen funding all based on the polluter-pays principle. so said 1992 Rio Earth Summit, Conference Secretary-General Maurice Strong at the closing of the summit.
Agenda 21 is the United Nations plan for the 21st Century where among its 40 chapters nature is deemed to be above mankind, the concept of guilty until proven innocent will prevail, and the establishment of a one world government with a socialist agenda for every aspect of our lives by the use of the standard socialist control mechanisms.
Agenda 21 eventually grew in to the Climate Religion of Al Gore and the settled science of Barack Obama, nearly 20 years on the closing statement makes interesting reading:
”Nothing less that the future of our planet as the home for our species and others has been the object of our work. The World will not be the same after this Conference. The prospects for our Earth cannot, must not, be the same. We came here to alter those prospects—we cannot allow those prospects to have come through this process without having been decisively altered and changed to a more promising and sustainable future.”
He then enumerated their progress:
1. Each of the conventions, on climate change and biodiversity have been signed by more than 150 nations
2. We must advance from Agenda 21 to the Earth Charter. We hope there will be an Earth Charter on the 50th anniversary of the United Nations in 1995.
3. Agenda 21 – still stands as the most comprehensive, most far-reaching and if implemented, the most effective programme of international action ever sanctioned by the international community. It is not a final and complete action programme, but one which must continue to evolve.
4. On finance—we are a long way from meeting the needs for full implementation of Agenda 21.
5. On technology transfer—we have made recommendations
6. On conventions, climate change—we have taken a historic first step. We must build quickly on climate change, biodiversity and desertification (forestry) conventions.
7. On biodiversity—has not been accepted by at least one nation necessary for its full and effective implementation.
8. There are prospects for change but the patterns of production and consumption that give rise to so many of the global risks we are dealing with have continued. 260,000 children have been born each day while we were here—mostly poor—born into a world of hunger and deprivation.
We have established a new global partnership. You must translate Agenda 21 and the decisions that you have taken at the global level into your own national policies and practices.
We should consider new taxes, user chargers, emission permits, citizen funding all based on the polluter-pays principle.
The messages from the children delivered as we opened this session this morning, gathered during the 15,000 mile journey of Gaia.
The people behind Agenda 21 know that the idea of a monstrous one world government is palatable to a very small segment of the population, so for years they used corrupt scientists and junk science to push the scary fear stories of impending global environmental Armageddon, which naturally their plans could save us all from.
The measures to save the planet would need to be extreme to combat their manufactured crisis, then Climategate came along and the scary CO2 stories crashed and burned.
Make no mistake these people will never give up Agenda 21 in one form or another, the Climate Change scam will continue to be an intrinsic part of their plan as they move in to food shortage and over population fear stories, all of which will require the same remedial action as the great Climate Change scam.

this is AGW ground zero..this is where it started..agenda 21..this has all been planned many years ago..show this to the warmists..see how maurice thanks gaia at the end of his speech?
We should consider new taxes, user chargers, emission permits, citizen funding all based on the polluter-pays principle. so said 1992 Rio Earth Summit, Conference Secretary-General Maurice Strong”

Bilderberg News Link Removed; to Meet in Switzerland June 9 - 12

Bilderberg to meet in Switzerland June 9-12

 •March 27, 2011 • Leave a Comment

The shadowy group known as Bilderberg will be gathering this year for its annual meeting at the resort city of St. Moritz, in southeastern Switzerland, June 9-12, but they will have a lot of company. St. Moritz is a short distance from Davos, the site of the regular high-priced meeting of thousands of bankers, political leaders and other notables called the World Economic Forum. But unlike at Davos, where the press is always welcome, Bilderberg still tries to maintain absolute secrecy.
Bilderberg has met in Switzerland four times over the years but never in the same city. Normally, when their sibling in crime, the Trilateral Commission (TC), meets in North America, Bilderberg does, too. This year, the TC will meet in Washington on April 8 to 10, but the Bilderbergers are avoiding the United States, in what may be an effort to fool the press.
Bilderberg has been called the most exclusive and secretive club in the world. To be admitted, you have to own a multinational bank, a multinational corporation or a country. Since its first meeting in 1953, it has been attended by the top powerbrokers, financial minds and world leaders.
The Bilderbergers hope that part of their common agenda with the “Trilateralists” will be accomplished by the time they meet: a U.S. invasion of Libya to generate increased Middle East turmoil so America can go to war with Iran, on Israel’s behalf.
As has happened for several years, the Bilderbergers will blubber about how “ evil nationalists” are blocking their efforts to achieve world government. They will order oil prices to climb so desperate Americans might be made more willing to surrender sovereignty to a world government. They will promote wars for profit, and will advance the call for a world government to impose peace—as if peace can be imposed.
It is ironic that Bilderberg attendees love Switzerland so much because they are poles apart politically from Switzerland, which declared itself a non-interventionist neutral country four centuries ago. It has been involved in none of the world’s bloody wars since.
The Bilderbergers can expect to be loudly greeted by AFP, European news outlets and some in the U.S. independent media. In Europe, major metropolitan daily newspapers from Paris, London and other cities give major coverage to Bilderberg. But The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times and their numerous chains will submit to muzzling because their top representatives are actual Bilderberg participants themselves.

this group lost its lustre a bit but dont believe for a second they wont be planning something..the elite may have moved on from this group with it becoming very public..who knows..but they still pull strings..

Earth Hour Fizzles: there are more Concerning Issues than the Global Warming Scam

The Canadian Press
TORONTO — More Canadian municipalities are pledging to power down Saturday for Earth Hour, but an expert says interest in the event may already be fizzling.
Earth Hour has "done a great job of capturing the imagination of an awful lot of people around the world" to raise awareness of climate change issues, said Mark Sarner, who specializes in marketing for non-profits.
But "just more of the same gets old fast," he said Friday, noting most marketing campaigns will fade after a few years without something new to draw the public's attention.
"If I think back to last year's Earth Hour, I don't think it was as big a deal because, you know, novelty normalizes and this is no longer a novelty," he said.
"Unless something really dramatic is done to recreate it and reinvent it, I don't think Earth Hour will be a significant thing in the next five years."
Earth Hour began in Australia in 2007 and has since spread to more than 130 countries.
Canadians organized hundreds of grassroots celebrations -- from candlelit walks to astronomy parties -- for the country's first Earth Hour in March 2008.
Some have become annual traditions, while others have been discontinued.
It's hard to predict how many people will shut off the lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, but organizers said they aren't worried about losing steam.
More than 420 municipalities across Canada plan to participate this year, up from roughly 300 last year, said Steven Price of the World Wildlife Fund, the organization behind the event.
About one billion people worldwide are expected to take part, on par with last year, he said.
"I'm confident it will be dark (Saturday) night," he said Friday.
In Toronto, last year's Earth Hour efforts saved 296 megawatts of power, a reduction of about 10 per cent, according to Toronto Hydro.
That's less than in 2009, when the city saved 454 megawatts, or about 15 per cent.
Jennifer Link, a spokeswoman for Toronto Hydro, said she doesn't know whether the downward trend will continue.
Earth Hour shouldn't be judged based on how much energy it saves, said Sarner. Its real goal is to send a message to policy-makers that people care about climate change, he said.
"I would say after five years (Earth Hour) may have done its job," he said.
The challenge now, he said, "is going to be how to sustain, deepen and broaden the momentum of support for climate change-related policies, practices and behaviours."

Radiation Levels Circle the Globe and Likely to get Worse

http://chaoticfate.blogspot.com

Radiation spreads as crisis likely to continue for "a long time"

Just a few hundred years or so.

English.news.cn   2011-03-27 00:35:40FeedbackPrintRSS

TOKYO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Low levels of radioactive material iodine-131 were detected Saturday in Heilongjiang Province, north of Beijing, China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee said.
The radioactive material was likely to have come from the tsunami-damaged Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, the agency said.
However, since the radiation level was below one-hundred-thousandth of the average natural background radiation, it did not pose a risk to public health or the environment, and no protective measures were required, the agency said in a statement.
Repair work at the troubled Fukushima nuclear plant has continued into a third week. More countries are beginning to detect tiny amounts of radioactive iodine and cesium in the air that have drifted across oceans from the overheated nuclear reactors in Fukushima, where a tsunami following a 9.0-magnitude earthquake knocked out its crucial cooling system on March 11.
The Austrian capital of Vienna detected very low concentrations of radioactive particles Friday, believed to have come from Fukushima, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) said.
The detected radioactive materials were iodine-131 and cesium-137, and the tiny amount would pose no threat to human health, the Austrian agency said.
It was the first time the two radioactive materials were detected in the country since the quake struck Japan.
Sea water samples taken from about 330 meters south of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant on Japan's east coast showed radioactive iodine 1,250.8 times above legal limit near the drain outlets of the reactors, local media reported Saturday.
The reading was taken on Friday morning, recording the highest radiation level so far from the surveys begun this week, plant owner Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) said.
However, radioactive materials would "significantly dilute" by the time they were consumed by marine species, Kyodo News reported, citing the agency.
The agency said the radiation would not have a significant impact on fishery products because fishing was not conducted within 20 km of the plant.
Government spokesman Yukio Edano said Saturday the situation at the stricken plant remained unpredicable, and it would be "a long time" until the crisis was over.
"To prevent situations going worse, we're trying to restore electrical supply at the plant and inject freshwater into the nuclear units to make essential improvements," Edano said Saturday. "We have to remain alert."
Japan switched to using fresh water to cool the reactors Friday, fearing salt accumulation would hurt waterflow and cooling effects. Tokyo Electric plans to launch fresh water injection at the spent fuel rods pool on Sunday, and it has injected fresh water into the No. 1, 2 and 3 reactors so far, national broadcaster NHK reported.
"The situation inside the reactor cores is not very stable and we can't say specifically how long that's going to last," Sakae Muto, executive vice president of Tokyo Electric, said late Saturday.
Koyama Kota, deputy chief of TEPCO Fukushima office, told Xinhua the nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi plant was very complicated. It was difficult to determine when the clean-up would be completed, he said, since the major task at present for the company was to control radiation leakage.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called Friday for international organizations and individual states to review and strengthen their nuclear safety plans.
"The existing institutional arrangement, including the Joint Radiation Emergency Management Plan of the International Organizations, with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) as the main coordinating body, needs to be reviewed and strengthened," Ban said in a statement.
According to Japan's National Police Agency, the catastrophic earthquake and ensuing tsunami had left more than 10,400 people dead and 17,000 others unaccounted for by 19:00 p.m. local time on Saturday (1000 GMT).
