Every once in awhile, you look down at the trending topics on twitter and wonder why in the hell this is trending. Sometimes, it’s a European thing. Sometimes, it’s a completely random WTF type thing. So, in case you would like to know WHY this particular meme is trending on twitter at any given time, you can check out WhatTheTrend.

What the Trend helps you find out what’s trending on Twitter and why. They are supposedly “The front page of the real-time web™. For each trend, they give you a quick explanation of WHY it’s trending (these blurbs are edited by you.)

With its “Digg-like” user interface, they are currently tracking 56,797 explanantions for 25,514 trends. I find this an interesting resource to check out during my social media adventures… perhaps you will, as well.
